August of 2013, we found a simple 3 bedroom home that was in the perfect little village in a perfectly quiet neighborhood, next to a park and the local Community Center. We had inherited a small inheritance from the passing of my husbands Mother after the home was sold, fees and a few bills were taken out and split with his brother. We used the money that we had left, after searching over two months looking for a home and living in a hotel for over two months, paying off old bills, getting myself and my daughter a reliable car, getting furniture and items needed for home and paying deposit and 3 months rent at this home we found.
It was a Simple house, but was very warm and cozy inside with a fireplace, basement and cabinets and panelling made from knotted wood that looked like cedar. It was so nice inside and gave you a warm cabin like feel to it. It had a breezeway attached to a garage that ran off from the kitchen.
Our son, who has learning and mental challenges has always lived with us. Our Daughter and her two sons, our grandchildren, also moved in with us at the time, so the grandkids were enrolled in the local schools. The schools were excellent and our grandsons did so well and made some friends and would hang out at the local library and get on the computers and play games with each other. They would play at the park sometimes and at their friends houses and always had something to do. I decided to volunteer at the local Community Center and met a Wonderful and Caring Person there who went out of her way to help us and so many in the community. She inspired me to want to volunteer there in the first place. She started a "Kids Club" where some of the local, school age kids, would meet at the center on Tuesdays after school, for about two hours, and play games or do crafts of some sort, sing, dance, but she always told everyone to be respectful of each other, and she Always had a Smile on her face, no matter how wild the kids would get at times. She is a Wonderful Person who, in my Opinion, deserves a Community Recognition Award, if not State wide! My volunteering slowed down due to my leg getting worse. I have a herniated disk and other issues that cause chronic pain, so I was not able to volunteer much after kids club started. We were all Happy living there though! Who knew we would Lose it all!
Before we moved there and before my Mother-in-law passed away, We were staying with my mother in law and taking care of her, after her husband had passed away two years earlier. My husband had a part-time job cleaning carpets and doing water extractions for a privately owned company and after his mom passed away, He, and all of us, became overwhelmed and once the home was sold, we had 30 days to move out, so we had to find a motel to live in temporarily, until we found a home. Our daughter and two sons, also lost their place to live during this time, so we paid for a seperate room for her and our two grandsons to stay in right next to us. My husband let his part time job go, during this chaos, thinking he would find a full time job closer to wherever we ended up finding a home. Yes, it was not the best choice, We admit now.
My husband looked and looked and applied everywhere and called and was promised to be called in at a few jobs, but they never called. During this time, mind you, we were out of money and struggling to keep gas in the cars, both my daughters and my car, which are both still in my name. He asked people if they were needing help, applied at the local pizza restaraunts and still, nothing. The 3 months ran out and now we were late with our rent. We had talked our landlord into giving us a little more time, and he agreed. A few more months went by and Tax refund time came around and we paid him most of our refund, close to $2000.00 in back rent. That tied him over for another two months or so. My husband Finally got called in to a job. We were so Ecstatic and we let the landlord know immediately and worked out a deal to make Bi-Weekly payments of the back rent until we caught up. He agreed and we were Finally able to breathe easy again. It did not last long. My cars timing belt went out one day while my husband was coming home from work. We finally managed to push the car back to the house and into the driveway. By this time, my daughters car was starting to run rough and needed many things done to it, and was eating way too much gas, due to some electical and exhaust issues, and my husbands boss had his partner pick him up and take him home the first couple of days, but this annoyed his partner that he worked with, so my husband started driving the "Gas Hog" to work. It literally drank about $10.00 worth of gas, round trip to the next town, each day. It was awful, but he managed to get there until a few days later, He got a call after work saying that "there were too many red flags" and they had to let him go. We were Devistated to say the least. We knew that this was it! A few last attempts to get another job, and two interviews later, we were served!
